July Report

Hello from Kentucky lake!

I wanted to take a minute to bring everyone up to speed. Since my last report, our second holiday weekend has passed. Being a local, I am glad to see, that it has come and gone. Now don’t get me wrong, I love to see area businesses thrive with tourism. I also love to see the marinas bustling with activity with people from all over. However, if you are a fisherman, it becomes an exercise in patience. I don’t think I have ever seen so many recreational boats out enjoying the lake. Add in the jet ski‘s, and kayaks, and it doesn’t take long to get busy. It was truly hard to stay out of the way of some of these folks. It is amazing to see people operating boats, that truly don’t have a clue what they are doing, but are confident enough to run at breakneck speed. I am truly thankful all those people made it back home safe.

On the fishing front, I have been chasing yellow and white bass. The fishing has been inconsistent but good. What I mean by that is, that I am catching fish, but they are rarely in the same place two days in a row. I have caught fish in all depths of water. As the daily conditions change so do the fish. Gone are the days of pulling up to your favorite fishing hole and seining it. Now it’s more like putting a jigsaw puzzle together. Each stop is another piece to the puzzle. Some days I can put the puzzle together easily, other days not so much. It is a challenge even spending 5 to 6 days a week on the water. How they can be there one day, and they vanish for no apparent reason is beyond me, but they do! The only way I know to stay on top of what’s going on, is to stay on the water. I will be chasing the yellows and whites for the next few months. Last year the fishing was good on up into October for these fish, and the temperatures are much nicer then as well. I expect it to be the same this year as well.

For anyone thinking of a trip for their kids, these fish provide plenty of action for kids and adults alike. Light tackle and hard fighting fish always make for a good time. Not to mention, the excellent table fare! I have open dates throughout the rest of the summer for anyone who is interested. Just give me a call or text at 270-816-3102.

Thank you to all who have fished with me in the past, as well as those who follow my page on Facebook and Instagram.

Thanks for your time and tight lines!
