Hello from Kentucky lake! Duck season has come, and duck season has gone. I for one, I am always glad to see it come in, I’m glad to see it go out. Myself, like a lot of other hunters, were met with warm weather patterns, and few birds during daylight. With no back water to hunt, hunters had to rely on cold fronts, and we didn’t have many of them to say the least. Now, I am not saying the whole season was a wash. Several people had good days, but nothing consistent. I even managed to get in on several good shoots on both puddle ducks, and divers. I would not go as far to say that the 2020 to 2021 duck season was stellar however. It did give me something to chew on as I washed and put away the decoys for next year. One can only hope next year is better.
With the calendar saying spring is coming, it was time for the annual pre-fishing boat and trailer maintenance. After two days of cleaning and detailing from the top to the bottom of the lucky lady, she is sparkling again. While moving the trailer around, I heard the all-too-familiar sound of a bearing going bad. A quick call to Penney’s Auto Service took care of this problem, as I am not mechanically inclined. If you need a mechanic, give Darrell a call. He is a good mechanic, and a good man. He had me fixed up in no time flat.
With the lack of rain during the winter, we were spared the gates at the dam being open for months at a time. Hopefully, the more stable water conditions will equivocate into better spring time fishing. After a couple of good shad spawns in recent years, coupled with stable winter weather, one can only hope the lakes get back get a little more like their former self.
If anyone is thinking of coming to the lakes area, and would like to get out on the water, just give me a call or text. I will do my best to show you a good time. I will be happy to answer any questions you may have, and can help you with lodging if needed. Book your trips now to get the dates you want! I will report back in as soon as the weather warms up, so everyone think warm thoughts! Thank you to all the people that have fished with me in the past. I look forward to seeing you again real soon.
